These ultralight TarpTents are made of first quality 1.1 ounce per yard, siliconized ripstop nylon and feature an overhanging beak, drop-down mesh door, floor and side lift loops.
The mesh door features a "drop down" design. It is sewn into the canopy and can be rolled up and secured using mitten hooks and loops that are on either side of the door opening and at the top. When in use, the bottom of the mesh door can be secured under the floor but you can also just place your boots and other gear on the bottom of the mesh door to hold it in place. That holds the mesh in high winds and helps keep your gear organized. In addition, two hooks on the mesh door can be attached to loops on the front edge of the floor causing the floor to 'bath-tub' up.
The TarpTent has no expensive, heavy and problematic zippers to break, jam or wear out. There is very little that can go wrong with this very simple design that can't be repaired with needle and thread (even in the back country).
The TarpTent has no center seam on the canopy or floor. The only seam is on the perimeter where the floor is attached, and where the overhanging beak is sewn into the front. The overhanging beak also has a seam in its center.
The TarpTent is designed to accommodate one person sleeping parallel to the back wall, but will sleep two if needed. Keep in mind this TarpTent has more floor area than many 2 person tents!
One telescoping hiking pole in the front and a minimum of 5 stakes are required. As an alternative, the hiking pole can be eliminated and the peak can be hung from a nearby tree using the peak loop. All loops are reinforced. Two loops are placed along the back for using a hiking pole to create a wall that is approximately 21 inches high. However, use of the rear guy line and a second hiking pole is optional and not required for putting up the TarpTent.
